FYI most stores will sell what should be a brackish water puffer as a fresh water puffer, this is why before purchasing anything ever you need to do your research first so you know what your getting into

You, sir, have Green Spotted Puffers, aka Tetraodon Nigroviridis.

They can live in freshwater for a short period of time ( while young ) but they will need to be ajusted to brackish water as they grow.

From the video it looks like you've got Green Spotted puffers (nigroviridis), not ceylons (fluviatilis).

Just read lotsa info, check out the brackish forum, at the top there is a sticky on how to and also check out the library here. Then see if your into it or not, it's actually not hard to do once you got the right stuff

How big are they? You don't have to rush into Brackish water (as they are often born in freshwater). However, you're going to want to become familiar with both their type (Green Spotted) and how Brackish tanks work. When you switch to Brackish water, you want to do it veeery slowly so that you don't kill off the bacteria in your filter. Rule of thumb is usually not to raise it more than .002 SG per week, but I'd still to a rise of .001, just to be sure things go well.

When going brackish, make sure you pick up a Hydrometer and the proper Marine Salt (not Aquarium Salt) for them. A great brand is Instant Ocean (for both the Hydrometer and the salt, actually). Green spotted need 30 gallons per fish, so if you have a smaller tank, you might consider only keeping one or two (depending on your tank).

If you have never had puffers before, trust me man you will fall in love with them, so much character to any kind of puffer and there are so many kinds.

Use this forum to your utmost advantage, lots of experienced people here and the site is full of great info.

Also never think that a question is stupid and don't ask. Always ask lotsa questions whether you feel they are stupid or not

If you put those puffers in a tank with other fish you're going to have some unhappy fish with very short fins soon! Read the article on them in our Library.

Well, for a 5gal, you could certainly try one dwarf puffer. Check out the pufferpedia for ways to ID so you don't get sold something else again.

If you don't mind taking care of a bigger tank, you could always try looking through local ads and reef club forums. I know cost is usually a factor, but from looking around we managed to find a 90gal for free as long as we were willing to pick it up, so the deals are definitely out there.
