New hairy puffer
New hairy puffer
Hello this is my first post but today i was looking all around san diego for an arrowhead puffer....couldn't find one. But i came across a puffer at the pet store and the owner didnt know what kind of puffer it was. I came on here and sure enough its a hairy puffer. I paid 65 dollars for it. Ill post pics on later.

Thanks!!! I'm sort of an amateur...well actually i am an amateur but ive had the tank for about 4 months. previously i had a dragon puffer in it but when i was moving from north carolina to san diego my 10gallon moving tank busted and i had to sell it to the nearest pet store. this is a pic of it. but anyway i hope i didnt do something wrong. what do you mean by cycled?

Re: New hairy puffer
What did you do to the tank to prepare it for the puffer? How large is the tank? You can look up cycling in our Library & find a profile of your new puffer in our Pufferpedia.

Re: New hairy puffer
btw pufferpunk!!! you seem to be the god or goddess of the website so here is a question. Do the baleyi bury themselves like the suvatti does?
Re: New hairy puffer
well my tank is a 55 gallon and i did a 50% wc just yesterday. That is good right

Re: New hairy puffer
I do not believe they bury but I haven't ever owned one. Were there fish in the tank before the puffer? Are there tank mates?

Re: New hairy puffer
What's a sun cat? The puffer may still find them & kill them.

Re: New hairy puffer
lol a sun catfish they grow to about 12 inches or so but mine are like i said 2 inches maybe 2 and a half, i havent taken them out lately to measure lol. anyway im not to worried about him finding them because that is a meal and meals make him grow. Havent really thought of a name for him....if is even a him could be a her. anyway now that i know what species it is im sorta upset. really wish i could have gotten a suvatti but no worries ill love it like it is a pig nose. So another question for the almighty. I'm looking for some peet to put in the filter for a brownish tank cause i think its cool and benificial. any suggestions on where to get some or if i should?

Re: New hairy puffer
Don't worry about the name until you are sure he's healthy and eating fine and stuff.
Good luck with it!

Re: New hairy puffer
Your puffer will prefer neutral water with a pH around 7.2. Peat softens the water & makes it too acidic.
