I have what was supposed to be a Fangs Puffer. It has turned out to be Monotrete Cambodgiensis/Barbatus. Its a really attractive fish. Is there a way to tell the difference between Cambodgiensis and Barbatus.

Has anyone kept these guys, Is there anything other than the usual medium sized puffer care I should be aware of.

Thanks :D

They're the same thing, Cambodgiensis is considered the correct name now.
Any pics?

Cool. I will get some pics up.

Are they considered rare or is it a common Puffer.

Not commonly seen for sale in the UK so you could say it's rare. What sort of size is it?

As I understand it; the correct name for cambodgiensis/barbatus is Monotrete barbatus.

M. cambodgiensis is up to date AFAIK. T. barbatus was used by Roberts 1998. It is now seen as a junior synonym to the older taxon M. cambodgiensis by Kottelat (Fishes of Laos, 2001).

Thought the Leiurus was lighter than that.

One of the main differences of leiurus and cambodgiensis is the transition of the back to the belly. It is very sharply bordered in cambodgiensis. Compare Seans specimen in the pufferpedia to the one here.

The one here is as typically leiurus as can be IMO with the spots reaching down to be belly while gradually becoming lighter. Looks like most of the holotype specimens leiurus was based on AFAIK.
