I have what was supposed to be a Fangs Puffer. It has turned out to be Monotrete Cambodgiensis/Barbatus. Its a really attractive fish. Is there a way to tell the difference between Cambodgiensis and Barbatus.
Has anyone kept these guys, Is there anything other than the usual medium sized puffer care I should be aware of.
Thanks
You can sleep in your car but you can't race your house.
M. cambodgiensis is up to date AFAIK. T. barbatus was used by Roberts 1998. It is now seen as a junior synonym to the older taxon M. cambodgiensis by Kottelat (Fishes of Laos, 2001).
Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. Give a fish a man, and he'll eat for weeks.

Yes Long snout and a large black Target towards the rear.

One of the main differences of leiurus and cambodgiensis is the transition of the back to the belly. It is very sharply bordered in cambodgiensis. Compare Seans specimen in the pufferpedia to the one here.
The one here is as typically leiurus as can be IMO with the spots reaching down to be belly while gradually becoming lighter. Looks like most of the holotype specimens leiurus was based on AFAIK.
