hit there
a fahaka puffer, 7 years old and only 6 inches. i hear these grow to 15 to 18 inches in captivity. just wondering why this one isnt full size at 7 years of age.
if i get this puffer, how long do they live for in captivity?
also, these puffers , at this age and size, does it mean that its growth is and/or must be stunted?
it seems strange to me, most animals reach full size after 3 to 4 years, i know puffrs sometimes grow slowly but fahakas as large puffers should grow fast.

There was a rumour that there is a dwarf sub-species of the Fahaka that only reached around the 6" mark. Yet to see one though.
These guys should live for a long time 10+ years easily.
This specimen could be stunted, does it's eyes look out of proportion to the rest of it's body? Spinal deformities etc....
Fahakas grown quickly in the first year at about an inch a month and then growth slows down.

It would all depend on proper housing & feeding.

i have requested recent picturees and i shall post it up, and you can help me asses if its healthy

could be a dwarf, or he could have regulate its feeding as i have heard some people do. some people claimif you regulate their feeding you can control growth though i dont believe in this, it is a practise done unfortuntely.

Post up some pics but at the end of the day if you want this fish and you believe it to be healthy then you should get it. If it's been kept in a small tank then this could account for it's size but you can at the very least use that as a bartering tool to get the price down on it. At 7 years old it's very unlikely that it's going to get any bigger.
