ill probably get some CC, but i have a question for people on their water changes... how do you guys get your water into your tank? i take a little pitcher and keep filling it up and dumping it into the tank... thats messy, so i wanna find a new way!

You can get a little pump in the bucket you use for your salt mix, attach a hose to the outlet and let it pump the water up

no, i mean from the bucket of water, its an 18 gallon tote that is below the tank, so i wanna siphon it up to the tank... idk how to do that

you'll have a hell of a time using a siphon...just buy a pump..which is nothing more than a mechanical siphon..and pump it into the tank

but what will siphon it into the tank? wont it need 3 ends..? one on the hose... and one in the tank... and one in the tote

HD do you have a pump in the tote to move the water around and keep it mixed?

if so it has a inlet and outlet. Attach a hose to the outlet and then put the other end of the hose into the tank and turn on the pump, it will suck in water and force it up the hose and into the tank

a powerhead would do the trick too, but yes a LFS would carry a pump for doing that

Attach a hose to the end of powerhead & pump the water up to the tank through it.

I've been using a regular Marineland powerhead for mixing water -- and they have an outflow tube that perfectly fits in dishwasher train tube (which is 1/2" internal diameter). You can get that tubing from Lowes or Home Depot, and it's a heckuva lot cheaper than the tubing from the LFS.

See if your LFS will do a water hardness and alkalinity test for you, or see if there's someone in your local reef club or fish club who would help out with that. If you have really hard and really alkaline water, you may not need the aragonite as a pH/kH buffer.

Another way of keeping the alkalinity and pH and hardness high is using some crushed coral in a filter sock in your power filter. This may get somewhat clogged with stuff, so rinse it out in the water you remove from the tank during water changes.

I just mix the water up in a 35L bucket and dump it in all in one go, for me no powerhead is fast enough to do water changes with
