I just e-mailed a mail order company for the black worms. My LFS can only get reptile type worms:
Wax, Meal, Silk, Butter, Horn and Super worms.

At the moment the skinny guy is still picking off Cherry Shrimp fry and will pick at a snail but not "eat" it.

Your best bet is the mail order blood/blackworms.

I have a feeling he didn't make it. I can't find him anywhere and there are no remains. Possibly the snails and shrimp got at him. He was there last night.

I was just told that mashed egg yolk (boiled first obviously) is a good temp alternative. Anyone used this before?

Thank you.

Living where i do.. it is always a case of too little too late. Once you find out the problem and the means to correct it, it may take days or weeks to get the necessary meds / equipment, or in this case food.

ohhh... Found him... he was under a rock.. too weak to move. I put him in the breeder net and a little food. I hope he holds out till Wednesday but it really doesn't look that way.

Just read this thread again... Does he pass by crushed snails, with fresh meat attached to the shell? Not sure if you've just given him live snails or crushed them for you... just brainstorming...

done both.

He'll only pick at it if it is moving... sometime I caught him eating something but I couldn't see it. It could have been baby shrimp, but they are very fast and I doubt he could catch one. The fat once I know can't catch a baby shrimp.. I saw him try today ..

Egg yolk is a highly nutritious food, but perhaps the worst of all possible foods for fouling the water. Ask any discus breeder. That stuff can send a tank down the tubes like lightening. Several hundred percent water partials daily are the rule. That is no joke. Tiny tiny feedings are the rule.

It works for baby canaries also - but there nixed with certain crackers.

The skinny guy passed away.

I had placed him in the breeder net with some crushed yolk, just tiny bits that I was hoping would be within reach, but he didn't take that or the crushed snails I placed in their either. I was warned about the yolk fouling the water, thus the breeder net for easy cleaning.

Black worms will arrive on or about the 16th.. much too late for that guy. Live and learn I suppose. Have another set arriving this Friday maybe. Having a DP solo in a 30 gal seems a little extreme.
