No, it shouldn't hurt them.
It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.

so i tried a worm with no luck but last night he seemed a little more responsive so hopefully

Did you try cutting them up? Epsom salt isn't really like salt, it's a muscle relaxer and constipation helper. If he is constipated he may be uncomfortable. Do a water test again today and post the results, as well.

He is pretty big for that size of a tank. Does he have enough room to turn around adequately?

he is like 7 months old he is like 7 inches he has lots of room lots and lots for now

Okay, well I guess just treat with the Epsom salt, and keep trying different foods. Try snails, earthworms, rollie pollie (potato) bugs, any freshwater muscles or shrimp (uncooked and unseasoned). Hopefully he will decide to eat.
