The best tankmate for a fahaka is another fahaka - so long as it is in the adjacent tank with two panes of glass between them. At least IME & IMHO.

OH that's a high risk for them oscars. Them being slow moving and an healthy 8" fahaka can swim pretty fast. I will not even chance my fahaka with tank mates.
Btw I mean the oscars are in there for 2 weeks already and the fahaka just got put in fir 4 days.. The Oscar often go finds my fahaka, seems like they made good friends... Hope my oscars will be fine, of no it's ok too, I got the oscars for free

htse I think with 2 oscars and a 8" fahaka in a 50 gallon tank your overdue for an upgrade in tank size.

Please keep in mind these are living creatures. Imagine being inside those Oscar's bodies.

Saw that coming. Now I would try some lil zebra danio's in a fahaka tank that is atleast alittle spaceous because they are small and fast swimmers but oscars are neither fast or small enough and doomed from the beginning. Oscars are a poor fighters even when it comes to another large cichlid at the same size. Fahakas are not a fighting fish, just killers. I have heard way too many stories about fahakas killing everything in the tank and also seen enough pics of the victems to know not to chance it. Some has tankmates without any problems but very little. Just a ticking time bomb ready to explode anyday now, imo.

I see no point in attempting to co-house fish with a carnivore/piscivore. IMHO, that is a no-no. Fahakas are best kept as solitary specimens. They are not congenial with their own kind nor with anything else potentially edible.

Plus, an 8" fahaka in a 50 is ready or overdue for a larger tank.

Repeating my earlier comment, Fahakas do not have tankmates, they may have swimming food reserves. Immature fish do not act like adults, you cannot judge by the behavior of a toddler what the adults will do.

Mine lived just fine with friends. Until now 2 deaths in 24 hrs don't do it
