I think it's a great idea. It's very porous rock, so will be perfect for the colonization of bacteria. I've done this same thing, but the rock is all in my sump. Not in the display.

youre gonna have to put up some pics!

haah, well, ,,i kinda screwed up with my GSP
at first i ha him in FW, then i slowly brought him up to high end BW, then slowly into full SW, then back down to BW, then back to FW

and thats where he is now =/

ive had him for almost 2.5 years

and hes small, i think i might have of stunted him a little...
hes about 2 inches, maybe a little less

hes fine with the other fish. hes the most peaceful GSP ive seen/heard of/read about
=)

The rock will still affect the chemistry of the FW tank, it will push the pH and KH up. I would not keep any rainforest fish in that tank.

GSPs are not, repeat not either FW or community fish. Keeping it in FW is not good practice.

How large is the tank?

You have a high-end BW fish. None of those other fish will appreciate the salinity necessary to keep a GSP happy & long-lived. You've been a member here for 2 years & never knew that?

i had a gsp he loved guppys, but fro dinner, i fed him 1 a week from my gf's tank, untill she noticed :(.. but then i gave a tetra and from that point he decided he would like tank mates and never tryed to eat another, i will have to try and upload a pic, im well happy with it, low cost marine look alike, with silver sand and ocean background, i have java ferns and the live rock the dwarfs love the caves and gaps, well chuffed!!!
the ph shouldnt go too high as i do 20% water change every week, should keep it nice!!!

i had to consolidate tanks and this was the best thing i could do i thought
i know i kind of screwed my guy over tho, but i wouldnt be able to get rid of the other guys

i was kinda stuck

^^^ daff i know that you stopped but i also know that feeding fish to puffers isnt good for them
PP, why arent fish good for puffs to eat?
