I do not routinely wear gloves. But I also never under any circumstance for any reason put my hands in a tank if I have any scratch, abrasion, cut, anything that involves even the mildest broken skin. The mycobacteria cannot get through intact skin.

If I have any skin issue, I either do not put my hands in the water or wear gloves.

The tank (skimmer box) itself scratched me.

LOL! Do you know any folks who are raptor keepers? It may be time for stainless steel mesh gauntlets over (Rubbermaid? I think so) dishwashing gloves. Sorry, I gave mine away post-Fahakas.

I always use rubbermaid kitchen gloves when I'm in the tank. I see too many bristle worms and things that I have no idea what they are in there. I got stung last night by a bristle worm of some sort when I was trying to get my damsels out the the tank. Little thing got in the top of my glove and went down the palm of my hand...Ouch. I'm all swollen up today *sniffle*.

ouch poor u!, i've never used gloves in our marine or fresh water tanks and never had any problems, though i think maybe ive pushed my luck ,i will wear gloves in the marine tanks from now on, especially if i ever get another lion-fish : )

Note to self, get elbow-length gloves...

I just noticed this. You know its funny sometimes, having cichlids, how many times Ive gotten splashed in the face because of their greedy eating behaviors... that I never wondered how much of their water I actually ingest. *shudders* Going to start wearing a facemask.

I do not ordinarily wear gloves for tank work. BUT, I check my hands and forearms carefully for any hint of a scratch, scrape, abrasion, what ever. Any skin disturbance at all and RTR is gloved (generally doubled) or his hands never touch the water. CCTV readers are dandy for magnifying any skim issues. Even the moderately visually handicapped can see then.

I don't wear gloves either. I do want some arm length gloves though so I can use them to fool around with my plants because I hate that smell the water leaves on my skin even after washing it XD
