They do look very similar. So are we going with leiurus?

I will try to get a shot of the belly this evening as I don't think these shots show it well enough. On the Pufferpedia pic the target is red. Is that a feacture of all Cambodgiensis as mine is definatly black.

I'd go with leiurus. I'm pretty sure about that, but don't know about the others.

cambodgiensis do have a red spot indeed, but leiurus can have a red spot, too (can also be black or even absent).

Another feature of cambodgiensis are 3 bold black marks at the chin, which are absent or if present are very faint on leiurus (Information from Roberts ('98): Freshwater fugu or pufferfishes of the genus Tetraodon from the Mekong basin..., which is the paper in which barbatus (now cambodgiensis) was described).

Fair enough then that makes the large puffers I saw last year to be most likely a Leuirus over Cambodgiensis.

I now see that was wrong, if the pic i've just posted is Cambodgiensis then the snout looks considerably longer and the markings are different. Obviously dont know what size difference which doesnt help.

Be nice if more of these popped up so more comparison pics between the 2 can be used more often.

That nose does look much longer than my puffer.

I can also see a distinct difference in the shape of the head and top outline, top one seems flatter with a longer flatter snout, with second one looking slightly more rounded :S I like the look of that last puffer, does it have that colouration all the time?

I am even more confused now. I think mine looks like the shorted nose Cambodgiensis.

Any thoughts?

These 2 are more confusing than some of the smaller target puffers but they are stunning looking specimens and bridge that gap between the Mbus, Fahakas and the smaller species. Hopefully more will turn up in the trade and more keepers will get hold of these.

hahaha . Wildwoods have got some in, was thinking about getting one.
Had a looked at the pics on TFF that have now been put up and still not sure.

I have seen the ones at Wildwoods and they definatly have the long noses. The pics on TFF are from the site not uploaded from the store.

Thanks for that jelly, I saw that they werent the stock pics. How did they look health wise?
