This morning was the big test for all the water mixing and pumping equipment and it worked exactly like it should have. The pump has plenty of lift and shot a steam out of the end of the hose (3/4" OD) about 18" across the tank. I put an adjustable flow control on the end and actually had to turn it down some. I'm guessing it would probably be good for a few more feet of lift, plus it is completely silent. It mixed all night 3' from my bed and I had to check it a few times just to make sure it was still running. Not bad for a $20 pump.

The only real issue I've been having is that the python won't pull out the fish waste or snail shell fragments. I guess there is not enough water pressure to create enough suction. So I'm having to net it all out which causes a very cloudy tank. Not that big of a deal but it would be nicer if I could figure a way to get it to work. The only thing I could think of was to run it to the kitchen sink which would be another 50' of hose. Still thinking on this one.

It's sits next to a window so I'm going to cover that end of the tank and see if that will clear it up.

Since changing the salinity, even though it's only .001, I've already noticed a significant change in Emma. She is utilizing more of the tank and swimming more in the front. She still heads toward the back if you get to close but she appears much happier.

I can already tell that with the 12" depth there is going to be a problem with swimming room once Emma gets bigger so I have been thinking about upgrading to a larger tank. I had started to research which size tank I was going to change to and trying to work out all the logistics of switching everything over and all the other hassles since I would want the new tank where the existing one is.

While I was working on it my oldest grand daughter asked what I was doing so I explained it to her and here was her answer, "The tank is not to small the rocks are just to big". Looking at it from this new perspective turns out she has found the answer to the problem. When I ordered my rocks from Macro Rocks I received 4 very large rocks and in a 18" deep tank they would have been perfect. So it looks like I'll just order 25# of their Nano sized rock and do a little rescaping. Funny how, as an adult, sometimes we can't see the forest for the trees but to a 5 year old the answer was so simple.

Since I'll have 4 large rocks and a few of the nano sized left over I'll probably take the opportunity to start a 29 gallon saltwater tank, since I wouldn't want the rock to go to waste.

I'm cycling a 36g US for my lil gsp, so I'm checking this thread periodically as a reference.

PP et al has convinced me of the wisdom of going FOWLR; trying to get over my timidity about it. I've only done FW and BW before. Wish me luck!

I was the exact same way. Did it for my GSPs too!
