Utah Oolitic sand and Lake Bonneville Tufa

If anyone is ever passing through Utah (I-80) you can make a short detour and get free base rock and oolitic sand. I just recently started posting on our local Marine Aquarium Society's board and tagged along on a trip to pick some of this stuff up. It's on state land, and the Utah Bureau of Land Management allows you to collect up to 300lbs for personal use.

That's beyond awesome! wish i lived closer. If I were to do a huge tank build it might be worth the drive.

I wish it was practical to ship, I think it would be more trouble than it's worth.

I was a bit concerned at first that it wasn't "real" live rock, but apparently a lot of stuff in the hobby isn't ref. Local people have been using it for years with great success. I even met people from surrounding states that drive all the way out here to collect.

The cloudy water cleared up (only took a day). It's crystal clear now.
