Mantis shrimp food?
i saw a mantis shrimp on the most Xtreme show on animal planet and i think that a big fahaka puffer can kill one my lil brother keeps telling me that a mantis shrimp will kill a fahaka puffer. i think that my fahaka puffer will eat one. what do u guys think?
55gal: 5 inch fahaka puffer
Well this summer i was catching some in SandIsland (a beach in hawaii) and those buggers hurt. If they feel threatened they will snap their tails at you. A few got me pretty bad. But they were good fishing bait
. Well remember this aswell, they are SALTWATER inverts. Putting them into freshwater will kill them so if your puffer is intrested and likes them as food you maybe fine. When i put them in a bucket i thought my dad filled with salt water for live bait (water was actually fresh) they died almost instantly.

Well, if this is directed to me then let me say a few things...mandycat wrote:I do believe that putting a saltwater shrimp into a freshwater aquarium for your entertainment is cruel.
First of all, they were not put into a freshwater AQUARIUM it was a bucket. Second of all, it was not for the purpose of ENTERTAINMENT, it was pure ACCIDENT. So please if this was directed to what I had wrote please take the liberty of reading the posts so you get what is said before going off. And I do appologies if this was not aimed at me.

I am not trying to be rude. Because I am not a moderator I cant express that I think feeding a mantis shrimp to a Fahaka puffer is unnecessary? It was completley unrelated to tihshos post. Sorry (again, my ususl motto) for offending anyone. Just like feeding live huge rats to big snakes is unecessary because the rat could bite your snake and hurt him, what if that mantis shrimps last act is to punch your puffer in the face? They are extremely smart (those little mantis shrimps) and I think it would not only not be a wise move to do so for the reasons I just stated, I also think it is just mean. I am only looking out (always) for the animals involved, not trying to aggravate anyone.

Mandycats: Because you are not a moderator or adminstrator, it is not your position to say who stays on this board and who goes elsewhere. You have every right and valid reason to question the original poster - as one individual member to another. Beyond that, you overstep the boundaries. Your prior post has been edited.
