Will "Metal" plant anchors in brackish tank cause trouble

Post by my name is mike »

I have some hornwort and java fern that i want to anchor down and i found these plant anchors made from what looks like really flexible metal. kinda like solder i guess ???

anyway, i know metal is a big no no, especially with any kind of salt involved.

im guessing its not really metal, or why would they sell it for aquarium plants ?

anyone had any experience?

here's what they look like:

We use a whole bunch of fake plants in out tank as you can see Image

most of them have flexible metal wires in them and some of the metal is exposed. We had the tank set up for months and have not run into any problems.

I believe those are lead, which is fine for your tank. I suggest tying the java fern to a pourus/holey rock with fishing line & it will root to the rock. It is not meant to be planted.

thanks crew...

PP, i was not planning to "plant" the java fern, just re-ancor it to some fake drift wood -- it had been tied on with cotton thread, but the thread degraded before it could anchor. after several attempts at this, im convinced it afix anchor to the fake stuff..

so, ill try to anchor it to some rock - thanks for the suggestion
