Just bought a new GSP... think I made a mistake!!

Post by kjochims28 »

So I wanted a pet for my dorm room and the only ones allowed were fish, so I went out and got an adorable little puffer. The guy at the store told me my two gallon aquarium would work fine for this fish, which I have since discovered is incorrect. My puffer is approximately two inches long, maybe a hair or two shorter. I will be out of the dorms the beginning of next May and will be able to give the little guy a bigger aquarium then since I will be getting married and moving into a house or apartment of some sort. My question is, can I keep this poor thing in the tiny little aquarium until then, or should i just try and find him a new home? My plan is if I keep him in this tiny little aquarium to put in a short plant at the bottom with some sort of structure that he could "hide" in and leave the top 2/3 open for swimming and what-not, what do you think?
PS- I know this is a probably dumb question, but I've only had simple fresh-water fish before, do I need to have the air pump hooked up for this little guy? I feel bad for him because when he's near the top the bubbles seem to push him around a bit...

Welcome. You need to rehome him ASAP, hopefully to someone that has at least a 30g cycled aquarium and knows or is willing to learn how to properly care for it.

I would rehome him ASAP as well. It sounds like on top of the tank being WAY too small, you don't have a filter running or any marine salt in the water?

He won't survive very long like that.

That poor fish is domed in a day or so. Please print out my article on them in our Library & show it to the guy that sold it to you. Also try to speak to the top person at that store about the horrible advise that salesperson gave you about this fish.
