Actually, I don't recommend the Jager heaters anymore. Its really hard nowadays to find a reliable heater. The Stealth ones seem to be the best, but I've heard people are even having those fail. Not nearly as much as the other brands though. I've had two titanium ones go on me over the last couple weeks.

To rinse sand, dump some of the sand in a bucket. Run water in it via a hose or your sink faucet, but do it where you can allow the bucket to overflow, like in your tub or back porch. Stick your hand in the bucket and swirl it around, keep running water into the bucket until the water overflowing it is clear and all the dirt and dust has washed out. Dump out the water carefully, then dump the sand in another container. Continue in batches until all your sand is washed, and then you can add it to the tank. If its already wet, it will be pretty easy to just scoop it up in a cup or something and lower it to the bottom, where you can dump it.

I honestly think that because of how they work, all heaters will eventually die with age, and thus whenever a new, decently made one comes out, it gets a reputation as "the good heaters" because not enough old ones are around to fail yet.

There are some tell tale signs that a heater has failed. The best is looking at the thermometer. The second way is looking for excess condensation. Either way, if it is really hot, you want to unplug your heater before you stick your hand into it. That is a nice way to get electrocuted.

I was just wondering why u would think i wouldnt have a thermometer in there.

Sorry, you said in your post "I stuck my hand in his tank and it was so hot, 100 degrees, I almost died." I just assumed you didn't have a thermometer.

I am sorry, I guess I didn't read the thermometer before I stuck my hand in there, cuz u think its gonna feel the same temp and I was stunned.
