blur colors on GSP back

Hello,

I have two GSP's, one of about 1 inch and half and second of about two inches. The bigger one has no vivid green/black colors on his back, it looks cloudy, blurred but the little one looks fine. Is this normally or it has some disease?

How long have you had them? What size tank are they in? How did you cycle it? What are the current water parameters?

I keep them in a 10 gallons aquarium, got them about 2 months ago. I think they both been bright green when I bought them. I mention that I do no light them directly, source of light been rooms light.

I replace 30% of water every 5 days. Ph 8, GH 10 and No2/No3 tests are yellow (eh, forgot value but first color si yellow < 003 or something).

I keep water for 5 days in open recipient.

Speaking about water, I have to move them to a new location where DH is 23. Will they be affected? I intend to graduate add water from that location and change water from aquarium to graduate raise DH to 23. I cannot install a RO at this moment at new location.

Judging by the results the tank does not seem cycled.
Is that the case?
All readings for nitrite and amm should be zero. Puffers are very sensitive to these toxins.

Tank been in place for about two months now with an internal filter running inside 2 weeks before that. Tetra tests of No2/No3 tests does not have any 0 mark, they have the minimum value of bellow 003 or something.

I remove any trace of food after each meal. May be due lack of light?

Running a filter on a tank doesn't cycle it unless there is some source of ammonia, and it takes longer than 2 weeks for the cycle to complete. I'd also say your tank is probably not cycled completely. Lack of light won't affect anything but bad water quality will.

I would carry on with daily water changes until you can get an accurate water reading either from a test kit or taking a sample to a LFS

Thanks for your advices. Do they look really bad in that picture? Because from what I see them daily, they look fine to me.

Its hard to tell what they look like in those photos, generally their bellies are what give a good indication of how they are feeling.

You do realize a 10 gallon tank is not nearly sufficient for these fish? They grow fast and are very sensitive, if you want to keep both you are looking at 60+ gallons and a full marine setup. Hope you are prepared for that.

The hardness change shouldn't be a big deal, you have much more important worries at the moment (cycling that tank, getting a larger tank, etc).

TBH I cannot tell any real problems from the picture. All looks well to me but lets get the water stats sorted first.
