my new brackish puffer

hi there i am new to this site and was actually looking for some help on my new brackish puffer i got my hands on a couple of weeks ago, when i got It i was told it was a green spotted but it was quite apparent this wasn't the case as i already have 2 juvenile GSPin another tank so would really like some help with identification but:
A)i don't know how to post pics on this site
and B) i don't have much info on him apart from he is about 6.5-7 inches long and he is brackish

This could be a ceylon puffer, which looks much like a spotted puffer from the side or bottom, but looks more like a figure 8 puffer from the top. They also get bigger than green spotted puffers, 7" would be a HUGE green spotted. Take a look in the pufferpedia and see if it's a ceylon, or perhaps sabanhesis.

If it's a sabanhesis you're in luck in a way, you get the size of a gsp or ceylon but they prefer lower SG, like a figure 8. They are big and messyand need lots of space though, I'd say 30-40 gallons himself.

Out of interest was it in low end brackish at the LFS. You wont regret the purchase, had mine for almost 5 months now and he's great. Greedy but great.

he was in brackish water of around 14 ppt in the shop

So an Sg of about 1.009 then. mine was in 1.004 and he still is, the few others that have turned up seem to have been in this range. If he's doing well in it i'd leave him there.

yea he seems happy enough now had a bitof trouble the 1st week tho cos he got white spot but it seems to have cleared up now and quite active!i heard these aren't very active tho once they have settled in hows yours?

He is less active than what he was when i first got him, he'll sit on a rock most of the day and then come to life in the evening.

mine had several ailments when I got him but he seems to have got over them.

Keep a close eye on the belly, if it goes skinny the day after feeding its a good bet he'll have a parasite infestation which will need treating. Yours hopefully wont but I thought id mention it just in case.

cool thanks for the tip very handy to know,wasactually guna say that mine def more active wen i turn the light off of an evening?dont spose you know anything about fahakas?

Mine prefers the light off and low light levels in the room, belly lightens up a lot in lower light levels.

no it was just general really cos there is 1 just turned up in my LFS and i was looking at gettin it but it is a bit costy to buy not really knowing about them
