Successful fahaka feeding

Post by Boxermom »

I finally got Linus to eat some shrimp without having to chop it into pieces and cover it with squirming worms. :) I usually use whole large frozen shrimp and take them tank to tank, letting everyone chew off their portion, but I think the large pieces scared him. So last night, I cut a portion off that was about an inch long, including the tail fin part. He's used to coming up for food like snails, so he came swimming up when I approached the tank. I dangled it just under the water line and he immediately started munching on it, eating almost the whole thing. :) So now I'll start offering silvesides, shrimp and other things more often, which is good since it was starting to take a quite a few blackworms to fill him up.

Glad to hear of the successful feeding! I could imagine it would take ALOT of worms to fill that guy up.

Yup, sure did. I'll use them more as a treat now, like I do with Justin the palembang. Justin stares through the egg crate when I feed Linus if he hasn't had some first.

Hehe, cute, I used to feed the GSP's in the LFS some of the blackworms I got because my DP's needed so few, and it's truely amazing how fast a larger puffer can suck down such little worms.
No matter how magnificent your successes or devastating your failures, the worlds' approximately 5 billion impoverished people could not possibly care less.

Prevent unnecessary deaths due to disease- quarantine ALL new additions at least 4 weeks in a separate tank before adding to your main display tank!

Today, Linus wouldn't eat the shrimp I dangled from my fingers, even when I chased him around with it. Then I tore it into smaller pieces and dropped them in. He watched them fall and once they were on the gravel, moving slightly in the current, he chomped them all up. Which is a good thing IMO as it removes the temptation of my fingers. :)
