pet shop did not know what it was he received 4 so i bought 1 and hes cool lookin so heres the pictures

Very probably one of the Sphoeroides.

I'd say Spoeroides testudineus from the pics.

Will get 40 cm.

yes was in SW at pet shop and he was cheap only 18.99 i got him cuz he was cool looking and they didnt know the type he was it say assorted puffers lol

I agree, it looks like the one in Eberts Aqualog. Very pretty fish, lets hope it gets on well woth the others :D

Looks like Sphoeroides maculatus to me, the Northern Puffer. Fishermen used to call them squab, and they were an important food fish until the 60's when they became very scarce. I happen to have researched them because I was considering trying to keep pufferfish local to Long Island at one point, and this is the only one. He's web info on Maculatus puffers:

If I'm right it will grow to 10-14" and prefer slightly cooler than tropical temperatures.

S. maculatus has rather vertically elongated blotches.
S. testudineus has polygonal blotches IMO like this puffer.
