Well after my heat wave tank crash last summer I have been pufferless. I have had my 39 planted with nothing but 2 little tetras and a pleco to keep my bacteria kicking thinking eventually I'd find a puffer.
Yesterday I was visiting my sis three hours south for her first sonogram ever (my gosh that was cool) and popped into a rat hole fish store after the doctor. I found a pathetic target puffer sulking in a corner with a sign on the front that said "red eye puffer 9.99" a trip to walmart later to set up a replica of the bucket system i moved my fish cross country in, and bit of a car ride, I have a sad target puff in qt. He looks awful, and his chances prolly arent great, but I am hoping.
wish me luck

The store was feeding frozen brine and guppies. Guppies bleh absurd. I have no problems offering the frozen brine to start, though I have to admit to being geekishly excited that the snail colony i have kept going all this time will be put to use finally.
So I have him with melafix and pimafix. He looks really thin, like a pitbull owned by creepy people with a big block head and skinny little body. He has lots of little circle bite marks and he was having heavy respirations in the shop and he is still working at that it seems. Overall he is the most unhealthy fish I have ever come home with. I am such a sucker I couldnt leave him there to die. So it may not work out, but I have spent ten bucks on dumber things and at least if he passes he wont be in a overcrowded tank with GSPs biting the stuffing out of him poor little beast.

So maybe too soon to get excited, but he lived through the night. I offered him some prawn soaked in garlic guard on a skewer he went after it pretty well and that gives me high hopes. I was worried when he snubbed the frozen brine they fed at the store. Who knows maybe he thinks those icky cubes are rubbish too
