Tank and Setup Advice Please

Hi,

Some of you may recognize me from the meet and greet pages, I'm a complete newbie but have been bitten hard by the puffer bug and know I just have to be a mum to one of these little guys.

Just trying to pick a good tank and just wondering if you guys had any thoughts before I go by one of these two...

Trying to work out conversions of Gallons and Litres etc - just wondering if the number of dwarfs puffers I could home would vary enough to warrent going for the bigger one so I could have more than one without them fitting.

Can someone look at the two tanks and recommend how many I could home. I think I could only have one in the 30L tank but might get away with 2 in the 56L tank....am I right

30 litre could hold 1 dwarf puffer, the 56 litre 2 Dwarfs, thats about it.

They're not exactly cheap tanks either for what you are getting..

I recommend you go and have a look around your smaller local fish shops and see if they've got anything on offer. If you are unsure write down what it is and post it on here and we'll tell you if its OK or not.

Cheers, I feel much happier knowing I was about right on how many I could home....I want my guy(s) to be happy.

So I will go for about a 50-60L tank cos even if I have one it will be easier to maintain and I can fill it with more interesting things for him to explore.

It will take me a good few weeks to get all my equipment and prep the tank etc so plenty of time to decided on one or two. The thing I guess is to make the decision when buying them as I would want them to be familiar with each other in the lfs rather than to buy one and add another at a later date after one has set his territory.

The happiness and well being of my puffer(s) is my main concern.

What about sand / gravel - I was wondering if one would be better than the other? Have heard Sand is better for their skin with them not having any scales but does it really matter - is it better to have gravel to encourage them to hunt more?

Sand or gravel doesn't matter much. It's pretty much what ever you like better.
