Wild puffers!
I agree!
I would definitely say that it is the "common toadfish".. always a bit sad to see that they are referred to as "common"..!
I'm from the UK, but on a world tour.. check out my other posts.. seen turtles hatching and laying, dogface puffers on the reef, beached sunfish.. allsorts! Been away from home since May last year.
My sister lives in Brisbane.

Amazing photos. I don't remember feeling envy like this in quite some time. I think it's amazing that you captured schooling behavior in these puffers. Just as amazing is the fact that you observed them hunting together. What an experience! If you get the chance and are able, I would love to see video of their behaviors. Probably a long shot, but I thought I would mention it anyway. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks so much everyone! *blush*
Was very very cool seeing them.. we were visiting them to watch every day: my sister's house is right on that beach. They return every low tide to the pools, so if anyone ever visits Brisbane, come here and watch them!
Unfortunately, leaving today for Sydney.. wll miss our little mates!
.. Forgot to say that one attacked my foot while I was standing in their pool! No fear there!
Could be that they are hanging around with their parents, Kass.. there are never more than a few large ones with each group of small ones.

They are cool saffib! I saw those in an Australian marine fish book, it was a library book so I can't check for reference. I've never seen them in aquarium shops here in Australia...that's a very cool thing to find in a rock pool! Do you live in Brisbane or just on holiday?
hehe sorry didn't see the post above. so you are traveling around Australia i gather?

Re: Wild puffers!
hi guys I just bought a puffer from LFS and i have been trying to id the puffer im convinced that it is a T. Hamiltoni and Navy I have the exact same puffer as you... and I was advised that it was a Marilyna Pterostica..currently in a brackish environment... SG of 1.012... which i am increasing.....
Navy..what conditions do you have your fish in?
Also currently my T.Hamiltoni is in full salt quarantine.. i am planning to move it with the Marilyna Pterostica.. is that a bad idea... tank at the moment will be at 60 litres..getting a tank soon with 160-200litres... both fishes are around 8cm....
The T. Hamiltoni tends to lie at the bottom all the time.. is this is an unsettled behaviour or their normal behaviour because i have read that they tend to bury themselves in the sand.....
