I use an aquaclear 50 as one of two filters on my 30 gallon, and it works really well. I much prefer sponges to preloaded cartridges, last longer and hold bacteria better, and especially I like aquaclears, because they have forced throughput and thus if the sponge clogs flow is reduced, rather than dirty water just flowing over the top of the cartrdige, as often happens in cartridge filters.
