I was at a LFS, and saw some red eyes (C. irrubesco) while hunting for a SA puffer. They're sooo cute! And they seem to live well with the other fish in the tank. According to some literature I read, they live well with SA puffers.
Wondering if anyone has done that before though, and are the fish ok? Currently thinking of a 2-ft tank (I think 15G or so), with plants. If SA lives well with red eyes, I'd probably get 1 SA, and 1 red eye? Will it work? Thanks a million!
PS: I saw some hairy puffers at the LFS. They're SOOOOO cute! But very very expensive.
Ive kept 3 irrubesco together with 3 SAPs in a 90 gallon for like 3 weeks.
No (visible) friction, but most of such accurences happens at night.
The irrubescos was hiding more than when kept as only puffers in the tank,
so there is the distinct possibility of s*** happening after dark.
I think it was RTR who pointed out that feeding will be a potential problem.
SAPs feeds fast and "in the stride" while irrubescos (as do all Carinotetraodons)
likes to eye the food with thoughtful contemplation on the existential question; to eat or not to eat.
Anyway; a 15 gallon aint big enough for the both of them...
I would go for a group Dwarfs, or a single irrubesco.
Ok thanks guys. That's a shame, cos I really like both type of puffers. And even though I read that the red-eye guys are quite uncommon over your side, they're common at my side, and they're selling at a real bargain. Sighs, I will have to go and think up something. SAs are pricy though.
Thats funny that SA are expensive from the 'other side' like you put it. (is it the dark side?!?) They are 10 bucks where I work, and we have not got a little irrubesco in like 3 years....sigh..... I want some.....
What???? That's 30p! I saw them at my lfs and they were about 20GBP each.
(Sorry, our pound sign's disappeared since we converted the keyboard to Swedish....and for some reason, the Swedish characters disappeared as well..it does annoy me.)
