well as u know, i was on the verge of selling my 5ft tank.

me and a friend went to marwell zoo today down in portsmouth, and on the way home took a wrong turn. I had to do a U-turn, and came across a maidenhead aquatics. well, i cant go past a fish shop without having a look.

now bearing in mind i phoned round 30 odd fish shops looking for a nile puffer to be told they either dont have them or cant order them in, cept for one shop miles away that had a 2" puffer.

anyway, at first i couldnt even see any puffers, and i said to myself, if i find a nile puffer today, i'll take it as a sign to keep the tank, if i dont, then i'll sell.
firstly i came across a mbu, not unusual, they are everywhere as returns! then i found a tank of dwarf puffers. and all of sudden, i saw this big stripey puffer! yay!
i couldnt believe it. after all that time, and against all the odds, i somehow find one. getting lost pays off!

anyway, he was expensive, but i couldnt not. so i stupidy bought him when my tank hasnt quite fully cycled. gulp. i know bad decision, but i couldnt not. anyway, got home and did a 40% water change.

much to my partners disgust, he was quite pleased about me selling the gigantic tank.

piccies: hes brightened up a bit since these piccies, becoming a bit pinker/reddy. the tank isnt staying like this, i will be adding a background, more plants etc and possibly a slate cave for him to hide in. this is only temporary.
hes about 6-7" long at the mo and had been in the fish shop for 4 months or so in a tiny tank.

he looks great!

I'd remove the thermometer though, he'll bite the red end off it for sure.

wow! that's a comfortable tank for a fahaka! :)

Do test the water parameters regularly since it isn't cycled fully..

Cheers:)

yeh im going to do another large water change today.

my readings are as follows

ammonia - 0
nitrite - 0.5
nitrate - 10
ph - about 7.5

hes really woken up today which is good, although hes only pacing up and down the corner of the tank.

Wow thats a turn around!!! Its been a rollercoaster ride for sure ;) I think your fish is gorgeous but I would say that a background will really finish the tank off and possibly make him/her feel less exposed, Open out a bin bag for now and stick to the back until you find something else.

Congrats on getting lost, another fine reason not to get sat-nav :D

I would look to decorate the tank with stuuf around the outside like tall plants and a few cascading bits of bogwood and a nice little cave would be cool 8)
