£400 is a great price! I've been quoted over a £1000 in the past. Mind you, i'm not sure if that was with a stand?

What is peoples opinion on a brick build stand? I was thinking about having the stand about 2ft - 2.5ft with the tank being 3ft high

Suggestions on a postcard please....

I think it depends ultimately on the look you want. As long as it is structurally sound I would go for whatever suits your needs

you can build a stand strong enough for any tank out of a combination of cinderblock legs(more the bigger the tank, 2 is fine for a 55), just stack them to the right height, thin plywood layers between some bricks if you want shelves below the tank, then put a big plywood sheet with about 2" or more of clearence over tank dimentions on top. You can use 1" or a couple layers of 1" for a HUGE tank. And you can put a tablecloth over the whole thing before the tank, hides the unsightlyness, and just cut a slit or slits in it to access the shelves, if any.

What sort of filtration rate (Ltr/hour) would be minimum for a Mbu?

(not that I intend to go to the minimum, I'm just designing the filtration and backup filters)

Anyone got any examples of what rates they have on Mbu tanks?

Sorry mate I missed your earlier post. I think that you need to go to the biggest possible filtrationmthat is practical for you. On a tank that size the water changes are gonna be back breaking so some kind of pumping systen could be an idea. I would strongly suggest the tyurn over to be at least the tanks full volume 1.5-2x per hour. FX-5's would be great and they are relatively cheap too

It would take some comuputation to figure out total volume turnover on my old mbu set-up, as it had multiple filters. The display was only 180 gallons, plus a 120 gallon reversed light cycle veggie filter and two same-cycle 40 gallon veggie filters and another 40 gallon sump, plus 3 Eheim 2217s, RFUG in the main tank, 10 internal Eheims (3 each in display and the main veggie filter, 2 each in the smaller veggie filters), plus Eheim hobby pumps moving the water between the tanks. heating as such was not required - all those filters, pumps, and lights kept the system quite warm enough. Partials were 80-100 gallons every other day.
