I have been treating boomer for ich for the past 13 days now. He is fine and well and hasnt once shown any other symptons apart from the white spots.
However, after raising the heat and adding the salt... along with the 50% water changes (although i have to confess to only doing 40% due to the size of his tank) the spots remain.
Some of them seem to have gone and from what i can see there are no new ones popping up..... how long do they stay on the fish?
Strangely enough none of the other fishes have any signs of Ich.

Since this board has been up, we have found there are several questions that routinely get asked in order to help diagnose problems. If you can have that information to begin with in your post, we'll be able to help right away (if we can!) without having to wait for you to post the info we need.
1) Your water parameters - pH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrates and salinity (if appropriate). This is by far the most important information you can provide! Do not answer this with "Fine" "Perfect" "ok", that tells us nothing. We need hard numbers.
2) Tank size and a list of ALL inhabitants. Include algae eaters, plecos, everything. We need to know what you have and how big the tank is.
3) Feeding, water change schedule and a list of all products you are using or have added to the tank (examples: Cycle, Amquel, salt, etc)
4) What changes you've made in the tank in the last week or so. Sometimes its the little things that make all the difference.
5) How long the aquarium has been set up, and how did you cycle it? If you don't know what cycling is read this: Fishless Cycling Article and familiarize yourself with all the information. Yes. All of it.
We want to help, and providing this information will go a LONG way to getting a diagnosis and hopeful cure that much faster.
While you wait for assistance:
One of the easiest and best ways to help your fish feel better is clean water! If you are already on a regular water change schedule (50% weekly is recommended) a good step to making your fish more comfortable while waiting for diagnosis/suggestions is to do a large water change immediately. Feel free to repeat daily or as often as you can, clean water is always a good thing! Use of Amquel or Prime as a dechlor may help with any ammonia or nitrite issues, and is highly recommended.
Note - if you do not normally do large water changes, doing a sudden, large water change could shock your fish by suddenly changing their established water chemistry. Clean water is still your first goal, so in this case, do several smaller (10%) water changes over the next day or two before starting any large ones.

I'll get a picture up tonight, the temperature is about 28-29
Every time I did a water change I added the salt. I followed the directions from the packet which equated to 1 tablespoon every 20l. Its a 400l tank and I have been doing a 140l change every other day. Not quite 40% as i said my apologies... is this what the problem could be?

I don't normally recommend frequent water changes while treating for ich. I usually recommend treating for a week, then doing a water change and thorough gravel vac, salting the new water as well, then no water change for another week, with another gravel vac at that time and replacement with fresh water. I'm just wondering if its really ich. You can safely double the amount of salt you are using and treat for another two weeks, but I'd really like us to see a picture first so we can see better what we're dealing with.

I get home at about 6, so i'll put a picture up then.
It seemed odd to me that none of the other fish have caught it, which makes me think it may not be ich. I just dont know. I more than happy to do less frequent water changes as he sulks when i mess about in his tank too much.
Like i said he is perfectly happy and hasnt shown any other signs of ich... i'm kind of hoping its like a fish acne and perhaps he's going through puberty!!

Its common for ich to not infect every fish in the tank. They tend to infect fish that are sick or stressed mostly. But it could just be the spines or something simple like that.

Got home tonight to a less spottier boomeroo. I havent actually done a water change since saturday and its obviously helped.
I cant actually get a picture now either because the spots that were left have faded somewhat. I am pretty certain they werent spines as they matched the ich description perfectly. I will keep an eye out, like i said there havent been any new bumps so i am hoping this is the end of it.
