its 15UK gallons and mine now is about 18UK gallons how ever it has a small leak some where and a slowly growing crack so needs to be replaced ASAP

would this be OK for my F8? hes on his own, i wasn't sure if he'd be OK in it? as its not very long but is high??

i've got a filter and heater that'll do a 3 foot tank so will do for this

I have a single F8 in a Juwel Rekord 70 tank, similar price with a decent filter system, it comes as standard at 400 lph but can be upgraded to 600 easily. I doubt if the Tesco's one will be anywhere near that and puffers need a decent filter because they are messy eaters.

Also forgot to say that you will need a thermometer, worm feeder cone, a refractometer or hydrometer for measuring the sea salt, 25ltr container to mix and keep salted water that should be aerated for 48 hours, frozen and live bloodworms, possibly other foods see article in the library and a supply of snails for his diet. Also read every article on here, as they are very informative. Lots of patience if mine is anything to go by, and a mirror to watch your silly grin that you will have watching these wonderful fish, I have had mine a month, very frustrating, worrying and brilliant.

well i went for this one in the end which is like the second one but 6 inches longer.

so bert shall be very happy i think

with this new tank would i have to cycle it? or could i use the current water? and i'll be using the same filter with its bacteria on it

i would like to get a sand base compared to my gravel i have at the moment, would i have to cycle for that

I think the hex tank is very overpriced for its dimensions but you seem to pay more for hex or angles. The second tank is a better use of space for a F8.

very true about the silly grin, i've had my little F8 for about a month now so all kitted out, apart from the salt bits as i'm going to slowly move him to brackish in the coming months, he was in FW when i got him so kept it FW while he settled in

i guess the manufacturing is more complex and expensive? or its just one of those silly fashion things

I had mine two weeks before going down the salt route, I have had tropical fish for 5 years, it did catch me by surprise, I now do a 50 percent change weekly, but I have to prepare the water earlier and this takes some adjustments in my normal schedule. I had a hell of a time getting snails and when I did I setup a small tank to breed them, that’s also a pain as I am doing 80 percent water changes every few days, and with Christmas as well I haven’t got a clue what day it is, Friday poss?

If you are using the filter from an established tank, you shouldn't have to cycle the tank. Using the water doesn't do much, there's very little bacteria freefloating in the water column. Its mostly on surfaces, so the more surfaces you can use from an established tank, the better.

As far as hex vs. rectangular, the hex has a fraction of the surface area and the more surface area the better for the gas exchange.
