I kept my dwarf puffers with rainbowfish, dwarf corydoras, kuhli loaches, a SAP, bristlenose plecos, endlers, even a few bachlor male shell dwellers with no problems.

But when I say this tank is heavily planted, I mean I have to rip out handfulls at a time when I "prune". And I never saw the dwarfs, because they were always hunting down snails and red cherry shrimp.

If you do try it, I would really really concentrate on getting the tank heavily planted and established so you KNOW they will have plenty to keep them busy, if they get bored I think that's when they attack/harrass the other fish.

Arrowheads are lurker predators. It would hunt down your other puffers.

So no, not a good plan.

Ya you could do one arrowhead in that size tank. The only thing is you mentioned you might like to see some action in the tank, and well... they have tendencies towards the lazy side

They are beautiful and unique looking though, so if you could forgive the lack of sportiness in exchange for being oh so attractive...

Hey Jen, did you ask fish factory ab out irrubesco's? If they could get them in would you buy them even though they sell tatooed fish? Also why has it taken a yar plus to get some in at the other LFS?

I wouldn't buy a single flake of food from anyone that sells dyed or tattooed fish. As for Aquatics Unlimited, they are like everyone else, supply and demand. I haven't asked them to special order anything so I don't know if they would or not. I just asked to be put on the call list in case they got any in. I'm not that desperate for anything right now. If some come along, I'll get them. If not, I'll keep busy enjoying the ones I have, even the lurkers I rarely see.

I've been debating trying an order from http://www.aquariumfish.net, but at $10 a pop and possibly mis-identified.. Maybe I'll shoot them an email and see if they can get me a photo of the actual fish in stock...

Alone? I'd go with F8s. After having had to do dental work recently on my SAP, I'd rather avoid having to do that on any others.

SAPs have very fast growing teeth, moreso than most of the other species of puffers. Even with a daily diet of snails, dental work is likely going to be needed every 4-6 months, and its a nerve-wracking experience. I was terrified that I had killed my poor Chiquita. There's a link, either in the General Discussion or Hospital thread with instructions on puffer dentistry, including pictures.

If their beaks are allowed to overgrow, they can't eat and will starve to death.
