new figure 8 puffer

Post by tanhql »

I've bought a small figure 8 puffer from a nearby fish farm, and am drip acclimating it to my 20g brackish (sg 1.005) tank. I'm planning to feed it freeze-dried shrimps (soaked in tank water beforehand), pond snails (free from LFS), and maybe mealworms. i have 5 quite small guppies in the tank right now, and hopefully they'll will be able to live together.

does this look good?

btw, are puffers supposed to smell? coz mine smells a bit ... 'rubbery' ...

ok, it's now freely swimming in the tank now. i don't think it can catch the guppies, coz they dart far too quickly(thanks to my whipping net 'training' when catching them). some males thought it is a female guppy, and did the 's' shape mating dance. and OH MY GOD, it's feces is SO big. pictures coming up.

They can sometimes live together but not because the puffer is unable to catch one  He can dart forward so fast, a guppy won't stand a chance. But if he doesn't they can live together

how do you let the f8 know it's mealtime for him to go to the surface? and btw, i don't mind him eating the guppies, just don't leave guppy debris behind and pollute the water.
