I pick up two new puffers today. Very nice specimens.
One male and one female C.salivator. Pics when they will stop still.

Congrats on the new acquisitions, hope you have better luck than me. What tank you going with for them? Another breeding project perhaps?

Not too sure on their permanent home. They are just settling in at the moment. Geting on well with them eating together and following each other around. Still early days though.
What size did you end up putting the pair in?

It put the pair in an 18g to start with but alas it didnt work out, but these things happen, I wish i'd had bigger tank and a hareem of 6 or 7 females as I found the female a lot more interactive than the male. I believe Fella has had some success by using fast dither fish to confuse the male so he forgets who he's chasing. Gorgeous looking little fish and if you get them to breed, i'll have some females off you.

Mine have finally settled in after some bickering to being with. I added hatchet fish as dithers to start with and that helped spread some of the aggression I think. The male soon forgot who he was chasing once he was surrounded by hatchet fish. The hatchet fish have no marks on them whatsoever, and have never been attacked. Fish which were were my oil cats (tatia perugae) and my freshwater sole (Bracirus harmandi). If you keep them alone, very heavily planted, with maybe a few dithers that's what I think would work best from my experience.

I'll try and get a few pictures later on, but right now I'm fighting ich in my salivator tank (and I go away on holiday 9am tomorrow...!).

Camera is not quick enough for them lol.

Had a good look around BAS yesterday. I noticed the tank that he thought were barbatus had a mixture of three species in.
One was a abei another was a cochinchinensis and the rest could have been barbatus but looked more like leiurus.

Were they still in seperate little boxes in the tank, there was also another one on its own in another tank when we went which seemed uber aggressive.

Did they have any other puffers in stock?

The abei was on his own in a box because he was being picked on but all the others were together.

They look really good. Did they still have salivator and borneensis in stock then i take it?

Hilly and I came to the same conclusion about the barbatus, they were a mixed batch and some might have been, but a few were abei.

How do you get away with those glass thermometers in your puffer tanks as well? Every time I've tried one, it's been attacked by the puffer straight away!

They had loads of salivator, two tanks full. Never saw the borneensis. Didn't think to ask where they were.
In fact I am not sure they had any.
Did they have borneensis when you went? How many and can you remember what aisle they were on?
