It's your tank and your fish... IMO though, two GSPs will fill the tank out quite nicely with no requirement for additional tank mates. My GSPs were about 1' and 1.25" in Feb. One of them is ~2.25" and the other is over 3" now with no signs of aggression between them (yet...).

Have you ever kept either Monos or Scats? Or seen the mature fish? Have you any clue as to their bioload and tank requirements? A 55 is too small for even a school of young or small monos, and a 75 is barely adequate for a single Scat, alone.

One lesson that most of have learned the hard way is that you should always research and understand the behavior, environmental and feeding requirements of fish before making the purchase. Overstocking a tank or keeping fish in substandard conditions (such as FW fish in BW tanks), even temporarily, will almost certainly result in stunted fish that are diseased or more susceptible to disease.

55-gallons is the minimum required for two GSPs and RTR has given you an indication of the tank sizes required for monos and scats. IMNSHO, it would be irresponsible to pack all of these fish into a 55-gallon tank even if you hope to purchase more/larger tanks in the future. If you cannot establish an environment that will meet both their immediate and long-term needs--you really should forgo the purchase.

Defensive? Nah... We (or at least "I") just get more than a little edgy when we/I think that someone is ignoring facts to the detriment of the fish in their care. If I overreacted in your case, then I offer my sincere apologies. If my response prevented you from making what I and others consider to be a big mistake though, then no harm done.

When all is said and done, I have a feeling that you are going to make a fine owner for your GSPs and I look forward to your continued and active participation in the forum!

thanks a lot im sorry if i seemed offended, i just wanted to explore all of my options and see what was best for them, not me. i really appreciate your concern and approval and im sorry if i added any stress to your day, im still working on the pics but my computer has been taken up with my new ipod so soon youll get to see the little guys

'Tis all OK. I think we've strayed from the main point of this thread though. Rather than discussing what you shoudl or should *add* to the tank, we shoudl be focusing on the current inhabitants and what to do with them.

As noted earlier, the FW fish will not do well in BW and I'm still concerned about the stress that the convict is placing on the little GSP. You really do need to separate the GSPs and the other fish. Do you have another tank that you can use?

i dont have another tank that i can use, we have a pond outside that we have koi and other goldfish in and which is also serving as a temporary home for some silver dollars but no i do not have another tank at this moment

The quote above was from 7 Aug. If you have no spare tanks, where did the convict get moved to, or is he still in with the GSPs?

You really need to get a handle on the fish you have and how they are being maintained. You have FW and BW fish in a single tank. Even if this were not a problem, the fish you have in that tank will require much more than 55 gallons as the fish mature and you have no spare tank to remedy the situation.

Now you mention that you are keeping silver dollars in an outside pond with Koi "temporariliy". Huh? Where and when do you plan on relocating the silver dollars if you have no spare tanks to put them in?

worry not about my other fish ye of little faith, they shall all find good loving homes in due time. i have friends with fish tanks and i have made sure that the parameters are appropriate so these fish will still be happy and no longer bothering my puffs

You also stated days ago that you would separate the convict immediately from the other fish and you have failed to do so--yet you have the nerve to call me "ye of little faith"?

I give up. House your fish however you feel is most convinient for you and please, don't spend any time or effort attempting to make their environment even remotely resemble that which is required to ensure a long and healthy life. I wouldn't want you to put yourself out...

convict and other fish besides pleco are gone but bigger one only uses one gill other is clamped can someone help???????????
