hello, im thinking of adding some BBGs to my 30 gal tank.

tank mates will include:

1 - 2" fig 8
2 - 1.5" golden mollies

is there anything i should look for to make sure i pick a "good" BBG ??? how many could i safely keep ???

Also, are they readily available in stores ??? I live in chicago, so there are a lot of store choices, but haven't polled any yet.

Do you think QT is necessary with these little guys ???

I would definately QT any new addition to an established tank.

Agreed, QT is necessary with ANYthing other than non-living decor IMO. No need to QT plastic plants.

I think it's much the same with BBGs as other fish. Look for strong colours especially. I personally like to avoid the smallest ones - this may just be me but if they are slightly bigger (and older) they are probably more likely to survive the trauma of re-homing.

Don't be surprised if you don't see the gobies after putting them into your tank. It's not unusual for them to go into hiding until they've "found their feet."

I started out with three gobies, two of which did not make it through QT. I never saw the remaining goby until I was able to get my hands on three more... now they are one of the most active fishes in my tank! They are always swimmin around (usually in pairs) exploring and sticking to the side. I have two smaller ones that are more yellow in color and two larger ones that are more of an orange with more black on them. The only problem I have with these little guys is that if I happen to be feeding my puffs large shrimp, ghosties or freeze dried, I have to wait until the puffs are done (and full) to get any brine shrimp to bloodworms down to the little guys as they won't eat anything else. Sometimes I have to feed them more than I would just so the BBGs get some chow.
