Powerhead and Protein Skimmer?

Tain't fresh, and tain't marine! Talk about brackish setups.

Powerhead and Protein Skimmer?

Hi! I will be changing my FW GSP tank to a BW over the next couple of months. I have a strong filter (Millennium 3000) but I haven't been using a powerhead. I've seen these used on marine tank quite often, as well as protein skimmers. I know that protein skimmers are useless in a FW tank;are they of any benefit for brackish? Also, will my GSP appreciate the greater water movement a powerhead would provide, or will he care not at all? He's the only fish in a 33 gallon long, 2" at the moment.

1)protein skimmers are not effective as SG less then 1.018...so dont bother until you are ready to go to full marine.

As for a powerhead...my little F8's love riding the current (kinda like body surfing)..just get one that is an appropriate size for your tank...for a little current, something like an aqua clear 20 or 30 (You can adjust the flow a little by playing with the settings)

You may want to ensure there are places with little or no current for resting as well

Powerheads are great in any tank for flow. They can eliminate "dead" spots in the tank where waste can pile up. I don't think enough people use them in fresh water tanks. In fresh or brackish water I usually set them up so that one is pushing the newly filtered water to the other end of the tank and the other is pushing water from the other side to the filter...If that makes any sense!
