Where would I get Colomesus Asellus ?

I've only just joined this forum and wanted a bit of advice on some puffers that would fit into my mature Juwel trigon 190.

After reading a few posts and looking in the pufferpedia, i've decided i'd quite like to add a small group of Colomesus Asellus.

Does anyone know of anywhere within 50 miles or so of Sheffield that as got some good quality ones in stock at the moment and what price should i be expecting to pay.

http://www.trimar.co.uk have them in stock currently, but I wouldn't want to ship these fish. I'd be keen to buy ones I have seen before I buy them.

Probably worth emailing a local store and getting them to order some in for you, I've done it in the past.

Agree with Fella. These are fish you *must* see before purchase. Although basically hardy (I'd argue among the hardiest of all freshwater puffers) when they do get sick, they don't seem to have a good recovery record. Perhaps because they are so highly strung? Bruising seems fatal, so you want heathy, alert fish with no signs of damage.

SAPs seem to go for around £9 in London. Looking at how my two buzz about together, a swarm of half a dozen in a 180 litre tank would really be great fun! Be sure and ask your retailer for a discount if you're buying in groups. It never hurts to ask, and a lot of places are keen to shift stock quickly.

according to 'the puffer locator' Wharf has some but I would ring first as I never saw any but to be fair I wasn't looking for them.

there were only 3 left when Craig and I went about a week and a half ago so I wouldn't be surprised if they had sold them by now!

weird, where live, my LFS almost always has them in stock(at least 6 or so).

I struggled for ages to get hold of any. Many places said they were on the stock list and they could get them in for me but then they were constantly let down by the suppliers. Not sure what is going on there!

I finally found a lfs in Bristol, ironically about 15 minutes from where I work, who managed to order in some, I thought he had read the price wrong when he said they would be £1.99 each, everywhere else I have tried has been about £15. All was explained when I got there, thoroughly expecting to be told they couldn't get them in, when he produced a bag with three of the most adorable, but tiny, puffers I had ever seen!

I tried Wharf, they had one left when I emailed, but he was happy to keep my name on the books incase they got some more in.

Good luck, personal experience they are worth waiting for even if I have only had them 2 days!

Forgot to mention! Apparently the high rains in South America at the end of Autumn and into December results in a large number of SAPs appearing in the shops. Keep looking...they should be coming more available from about now.
