For future reference, if it's a used tank you should fill it up outside or in the garage or something first. Sounds like a nightmare...

Thanks for the replies. The tank was leveled and sitting on a wooden base that came with the tank but it was second hand. It was well made with stress bars and 12mm glass. It has made a mess and put my hubby off fish tanks for life! I still have a dream of keeping a mbu but it now might take several years before a can persuade hubby to give it another try. If it had just leaked that might not have been too bad it was the fact that the glass shattered and was sent all the way across the room.
