My list of needs for my GSPs
Well, I bought frozen brine shrimp, krill, & plankton
55 gallon aquarium. Crushed coral substrate. 1 rock, 1 piece of coral. 8' bubble tube. 4' T5 light. Emporer 280 filter. 3 fake plants. 2 GSP's. Heater & Thermometer. 80 degrees. More info coming a long as I progress.
Thanks everyone for helping me!

And use that little 10 gal of yours to start up your own little snail breeding farm.
Go and ask your LFS For "Nuissance Snails" Make sure they are either common pond or Ramshorn snails. If they look like icecream cones you dont want them. Those are Malaysian trumpet shells and can break your puffer's teeth.

the best way is to thaw it out in a small amount of tank water in a glass and feed it to him that way, using either a pippette, turkey baster or whatever so as not to over feed/cause waste...scrotaye wrote:I dropped it into the tank and it just like.... disintegrated into a mess on the bottom of the tank, and the puffer isn't touching it.
Is that what it's supposed to do
it also gets his attention...
but yeah, go to the LFS and pick up some nuissance snails and start breeding them and add those to his diet as well. I use a flat toddler spoon to feed my GSP his snails. hehe I spoon feed my GSP he loves it.
So I filled up the 55G tank. And the water is milky looking. I think it's from the crushed coral... even though I rinsed it.

If your puff is little (for now) you could try feeding him with blunt forceps or haemostats. That way you can move the prey around to catch his interest. I thaw about 1/12 of a frozen mysis shrimp or bloodworm cube, or 1/2 to 1/3 of a krill, at a time for my little girl and feed her bits individually with forceps. That way the water doesn't cloud and there is very little waste. It helps that she is a very economical eater, too. Extra food gets dumped in the snail tank to gut-load her escargot. She also seems to enjoy attacking moving prey--her little tail flares out and she weaves and dodges. She's also figured out that the forceps are the motive force, and tends to attack them if the food is too fiesty for her tastes.
This feeding method might not work as well with big puffs, except when feeding cockle, krill, mussel, shrimp, or other chunky items.

Boy, they saw you coming! You got ripped buying those T5s--they're for a reef tank. What did you pay for that? A regular old flourescent light would have been fine.
Read the feeding article in our Library. Another thing to buy--a brine shrimp net. You should rinse all frozen foods thru it. The"juice" from the foods, causes nitrates in your tank.
As far as the cloudyness--add filter floss to your filter & change every day, till it's clear.

You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

LOLLLLLLLLLL
They did see me coming. I spent $600 in the aquarium and everything I thought I would need.
My GSP's still like live worms best though. The cloudyness is slightly fading after a couple hours. I think a day through the filter and it'll be fine. Maybe a partial water change.
As I said though, I've only had goldfish in a 10 gallon aquarium before, so you guys know best. This is new to me, and I'm up for the challenge. I LOVE fish.

If you want some money back I'd return those lights unless you're planning on having corals down the road (a possibility, but a far away one).scrotaye wrote:LOLLLLLLLLLL

They're a LOT more expensive than regular flourescent lights, which are all you need.
