puffer ate all the snails in one day .. oops

well the lfs gave me some free snails, must have been about 8 or so in the bag i guess. Well i figured being that hes only an inch long, he wont eat much, so i chucked all the snails into my tank. hes in a community at the moment until my brackish tank is set up for him. he didnt even notice me puting the snails in and they all latched themselves to the side of the tank and on plants.

well, today they are all gone. i cant find any anywhere. maybe they are just really good hiders?

well, stupid me thought they could all breed in the tank cos there was so many of them. so tomorrow im buying a breeding tank for the snails so I can keep an eye on what my puffer is eating!
how many small snails should he have a day being how small he is?

Something like a 10g would make a nice snail breeder.

Only feed the puffer until he starts to get a round belly. A good measure is to feed a snail the size of the puffers eye. Drop one in after another until he starts to get a round belly and then you'll know how many to feed for a meal.

hilly, thanks for the advice, will deffo do that tomorrow. if his bellys not round, does that mean hes hungry?

No they always look hungry. F8'sbeing as interactive as they are just make you feel even more guilty for not feeding them.

As long as his belly doesnt look sunken he is getting enough food. Keep with the daily feedings for now and then when he gets bigger you could make it every other day.

My 15 gallon snail breeder is so overpopulated with snails that I desperately need to thin out the population. I netted a clump of them off of glass, about 30 snails, and I put them in my 35 gallon with my 2 figure eights.

They were gone in 10 mins! Figure eights are pigs and will eat all you give them, so I suppose the moral of the story is portion control.
