Keeping tank clean

Does anyone know anything I could put in my 30 gal hex tank/ with F8 puffers to keep the algea off the glass. I heard plecos won't live in there and my puffers kill any snails I put in.
I'm using that magnetic scraper right now but seems to need to be done every other day. Don't like scraping it with the lid off, my puffer's like to jump and worried they are gonna jump out of the tank, and freak and puff up and die. They always are jumping around when I clean the tank.
any sudjestions?

Dunno but you have some typos in your signature. Proper spellings are "Dwarf" and "Gourami" Oh, and a 20g is waaaaaaaay overstocked.

It had been a while since I posted, so the 20 gal is changed now, the GT died, and i moved the common pleco in my 55 gal again and put in a chinese Algea eater instead. The kribs are very small, so in reality I only have 4 fish in that tank now. it's not overstocked at all anymore.
Now, my 10 gal Dwarf Gourami tank is way over stocked for the moment, I have 4 males and 2 females and 2 Glo fish in there right now. They just have to stay that way til my friend gets her tank up and running again, her elec got cut off , so everyone was gonna die. I'm just babysitting her fish for now.

Well not nearly as bad now. But still quite badly overstocked, considering the tinfoil barbs get over a foot long and should be in a 100g tank. A little small for the convict even, and not sure what kind of catfish it is but most catfish I know of get well in excess of a foot long.

I have 5 olive nerite snails that have been living with my 2 F8s for almost 3 weeks now. I know, not exactly a long term test, but so far so good.

My F8s are ~1.5" in length (still pretty young). The did bother the snails for the first week. The snails now hide all day, but seem to be doing fine.

Oh well, just an excuse to get another tank at some point, no one is big yet and the convict can move anytime I want her too, she does ok in my 55 gal. I'm not real thrilled with the Tin foils anyways so when they get to big I'll just get rid of them, my FS will take any fish back at anytime.

Let me know if they stay alive for a little longer, I put a couple mystery snails in mine and they ended up dead fast.

Nerites are all I can keep alive in my puffer tanks. Foot is smaller than the shell so its harder to get at.
