I have a fugu puffer and Know about their problems in captivity.I am wondering if anyone has kept fugus in freshwater or light brackish with more positive results rather than taking them to high brackish/marine.

Hi linearchaos glad to here of your success long may it continue ive read on fishbase that they are brackish/freshwater going SW isnt a problem because i have two marine tanks plus marine QT This info is interesting because so many people have lost their fugus in marine conditions so i was going to try low end brackish. If i was to transfer into my marine tank how would you recommend? I so badly want success with this puffer it is awesome.
At the moment it is in about 1.002 but like I say people seem to raise the salinity slowly only to lose it after a few months.
How did you do yours?
My fugu is very healthy and feeding well.here's some pics,

not great pics i know but he's always on the go
thanx for the input
regards chris

He's gorgeous, his colors will brighten though as you add salt. The orange on mine is so bright it almost glows in the dark...it's neon.
I have a good raport with my LFS and when they got them in I had them do a very slow drip to raise the salinity up to 1.018 and then when I got them home I just acclimated them to my tank. So if I were you I'd either go ahead and set up a really slow drip to acclimate them over a day or increase the salinity slightly every time you do a water change in the tank he's already in.

at my LFS there are 5 fugus in light brackish water and the don't look to well. It is a shame b/c when they first came in they had nice coloration and weren't under fed. I don't have the space for them currently but in a week or so I will. I have heard lots of contradictions on these guys. The one that concerns me the most (depends on if I have enough space or not) is when they become adults will they have to be seperated? Or since they all grew up together will they be fine?
