"Blue Spotted African Goby" fresh or brackish?

Hey guys, a friend on another forum posted this question and none of us know what to tell him.. anyone ever heard of this fish or know more details about it?



I bought a fish about two weeks ago and added him to my 75G community tank (rainbowfish, loaches, tetras, barbs). It was labeled as a "Blue Spotted African Goby" and had the scientific name of "Bostrychus africanus". The LFS said he was a general community fish and a "true" freshwater goby. I have thus far not been able to find any information as relates to the care of this fish in the aquarium. Do you guys know a source that I can try?

So far, he appears healthy, active, and eating well. he isn't messing with the other fish and they are ignoring him. He look very cool -- very similar to many saltwater gobies in fact. This led me to think he might prefer brackish water instead. If so, I have a 10G bumblebee gobie tank with a 1.008 s.g. at work that he could move to (so long as he won't eat the little guys).

There are a number of fish called a blue spot goby, including a species of cichlid and the knight goby. But the scientific name comes up with references to estuarine and mangroves so I would guess brackish.

Does he have a picture. Today I bought a marine goby labeled as a Blue Spot Goby.

Okay, he says his camera isn't working, and he can't find exact photos online, no one is selling them, no hobby info...

Bostrychus africanus isn't really a goby. It's an Eleotrid (family Eleotridae), which are sleepers, commonly (but erroneously) referred to as sleeper "gobies".
