Anyone have experience or know about Topaz Puffers?

I am wondering if anyone has any experience or knowledge of Topaz puffers? I can not seem to find much information about them other than the general information about feeding...water conditions...ect. I am considering purchasing one and would like to know more about them before doing so. Thanks.

Can you find the exact puffer you're talking about in our pufferpedia? A topaz puffer could be any number of puffers, though I have seen ceylons reffered to under that name.

I'm not sure which puffer it is then. The scientific name listed is Chelonodon sp.

Pufferpedia does not seem to find a match for Chelonodon sp. hhmmm...I'm on the hunt now. I didn't realize that a number of puffers could be called "topaz" puffers. thanks for that info.

So is the Topaz Puffer actually different from the Ceylon / Green (T.Fluviatilis) then as my Green looks very different to that in the liveaquaria link above but is often quoted as being a Topaz (although the size, conditions etc are pretty much identical)?

Why can't the world come up with definitive categorisation?!

The Topaz on liveaquaria is definitely not a GSP or Ceylon. The picture looks like a fugu, and I seem to remember hearing that it was. Also, check out this:

The world has had systematic nomenclature for a long time. Not very many folks use it however. And it is not carved it stone. "Real" names are subject to change as more knowledge is gained, but in the long run that helps.

No, Topaz Puffer is just a marketing name - one that's apparently used for multiple puffers. Scientific name is all that matters.

What do you mean? Topaz, Ceylon, and GSP are different fish. The name topaz has been applied to several puffers.

I know Ceylons and GSPs are quite different. It's just that the ceylon is commonly known as a Topaz but then I find out that the Chelonodon sp is as well
