Made up my mind?

Post by wannapuffer-20g »

8) i have my nice heavily planted 10g fully cyled just waiting for some dp's to control 8)

heres my plan, 3 otos, 2 dp's, ghost shrimp, and if they dont eat the ghost shrimp, some cherry and amano for later.

will i be overstocked or is this good?

what else would u try to add?

i also know that the dp's might be agressive towards each other or the oto's but im willing to take a chance.
if anything goes wrong ill just give away the meany to my friends tank

u think im good?

more to add?

tell me tell me!

What are otos? DPs need 5g per fish.

I would get a trio of DP's for sure. Ideally a male and 2 female.

Otos are not all they are hyped up to be in my opinion...and the DP's may nip at them...or they may not.

Get a couple of shrimp - shrimps are good cleaners and the DP's don't seem to think of them as food.

I usually use the aqua clear 150's on 10 gallon tanks, I can't remember what they are called now since they renamed them. Puffers need a lot of filtration since they are so messy, IMO a mini is too small for a 10 gallon.

I'd try to get two females and one male dwarf puffer, and skip the otos for now at least. Otos are notorious for being hard to keep alive, especially in newly set up tanks that don't have a good algae base already growing for them to feed on.

If your dwarfs allow the shrimp, they'll do just as good of a job of cleaning as the otos would. I've been meaning to drop a few red cherries in my puffer tank to see how long they last.. not long I suspect...

If you do get otos, get at least 2. They like company and don't do well on their own.

AC100 is now AC20
AC150 is now AC30
AC200 is now AC50
AC300 is now AC70
AC500 is now AC110

I think…

well im gonna hold on to my mini (aquaclear 20) and if it does get really messy ill get another one and hang both off, or make a diy sponge filter.

today i went out and got 3 oto's

if they dont do well in 5 days ill just bring them back for all my money.

when i was at the store ai saw like 7 fahaka puffers in a 20g tank.

one of them was missing a tail, it was at the bottom of the tank....poor guy\girl.

well since i have 3 oto's in the tank now, can i still get 3 dp's?

also since they sell dp's as juveniles i doubt ill be able to tell the sex so if i screw up and there all males or 2 are males and 1 is a female or something, wahtm will the consequences be?

I think you're smart for sticking with the AC Mini if it's the old AC100 which ran at 100 gallons that will be plenty of filtration and decrease the chance of young DPs getting sucked into the filter.

I do think 3 DPs with 3 Otos is pretty high for stocking, though, but it would work in a 15 gallon tank.

I love otos...they're essential to the planted tank IMHO. They are fragile at first, but if they survive they'll usually live for years (my oldest right now is 3 years in my tank but it came in full grown). The DP forum says they're one of the better tankmates for DPs, but obviously that depends on what your DPs think about the arrangement.
