F8s and current

Hi there,

When I was setting up my puffer tank about 6 months ago I'm sure I read that F8s didn't like strong current in the water. I've therefore tried to keep this at a minimum.

I've read a few posts on here today though that seem to suggest I should do otherwise.

The puffers appear quite content and busy. Should I increase the water current or leave it as it is?

Hi Kjharve,

I've had two F8s for about a year now and they seem to love swimming in the strong current of bubbles, kind of like 'surfing the waves', but there are big rocks in the tank positioned strategically to impede the current as well, so they can just curl up and float if they want. The tank always gets set up with those spaces in mind, even when we change the layout to create some interest.

The idea is to simulate where they live normally, i.e. where the river meets the sea, the middle bit has strong current but the sides can be quite calm.

My tank is virtually a cube so I have set it up so the current is near the top. Think I'll increase it and see how they get on, if they need a rest the water is calmer near the bottom.

I have my f8 in a 33g Cube with a Penguin 330 on it.. It has two outputs that create a pretty good current, the f8 doesnt seem to be bothered by it t all.

My 35g F8 tank has a strong current in it as well and my puffs seem to enjoy it. There are areas they can get away from the stronger current when they want to, but they seem to like the action!

Just to let you know, I added an air stone to increase agitation and they don't seem interested!
