Scavengers for puffer tanks

Hey guys! What sort of bottom feeders are appropriate, or basically won't be annihilated, in a puffer tank? I have a 2" puff that's pretty active, and a 4" that's sedentary. I'd like to put something in there to help with the cleanup, so what would you recommend?

Are they in FW, BW or SW?

Salinity is at 1.010 so it leans more towards fresh. By annihilated I meant being chomped by the puffs. The sedentary one I was told can be a meaney!

Any idea on what species they are? i've had fig 8's tolerate a lot of things but my GSPs dont tolerate much once they see it. My ceylons are curious about anything and my FW puffs destroy things on a whim.

At that SG, there isn't anything you can put in there. You really need to check out the PufferPedia & find out what your have swimming in there.

My GSPs are currently tolerating some hermit crabs. Although every time I walk by the tank I expect to see little pieces of hermit crab floating around.

Depending on the puffer you could try Ghost shrimp in there. My LFS acually keeps them at 1.008 for breeding so i dont even need to acclimate them to my f8/bb goby tank.

Under weenie puff is two different fish, Looks to be 1 GSP and 1 F8

Regardless that black stomach doesn't look healthy at all. Might want to look into some possible problems it might be having.

You have a Figure 8 and a Green Spotted Puffer.

The F8 does best in low end brackish sg of 1.005-1.008

The GSP will require full marine as it reaches adulthood.

What size tank do you have them in?
They will need seperate tanks do give them ideal conditions for a long life.

Seems your puff may be stressed out.

I had the misfortune of being sold 1 F8 and 1 GSP befor I knew anything about these guys, and the GSP killed off that F8 after a couple of days.

Like Hilly said they both require much different environments later on so I would seperate them or possibly return one if you can.

The larger one was showing stress colors when I took the pic. The flash scared him I think. He's perfectly healthy. I have a 180 salt tank that I can put the larger one in. Where I got him, they were keeping him in moderately low salinity. He's doing fine, just hanging out and being lazy, eating very well. Right now they are in a 12gal Eclipse. I know it's a bit small, but it's the only extra tank I had and I needed to get Weenie out of my FW tank cuz I invested in some rare rainbowfish and he likes to nip. I will check out those articles in the meantime. But can anyone still recommend what bottom feeder I can get?

There's really nothing you can get to help with the cleanup. That part is entirely up to the aquarist. Both because there aren't many "scavengers" commonly available for brackish water, and because it just doesn't work that way - buying more fish will only add to the amount of waste.

What else do you have in your 180 salt water tank? Is it 180 gallons, or 180 litres? Depending on what's in there, you might not be able to move your GSP into it. You're going to need to seperate your puffs and upgrade their homes pretty quickly, though.
