When i first started testing my ph, it was around 6.8-7.0 after sitting out for a few days. I just checked it today and i am sitting around 8.0. I did what other suggested and added a small filter bag full of crushed coral to my filter. I didnt think it would raise the ph that far and would hope to act more as a buffer/stability than a ph shifter.
Should i just pull the coral out or is it ok with a ph of that high. No fish int he tank right now, only plants and now snails that have appeared. 10g tank. South Jersey water.
Ph, was too low, now too high?

Did you measure your PH at the same times of day?
It will vary depending on the TOD, and there could also me inconsistantcies in the test media...I dont think either of these would vary that much, but they could both contribute to the variance.
I think crushed coral has to sit in a tank for a relatively long period before it starts to raise your PH... (and there are alot of other factors that will effect if it ever raises it at all)...it should be ok to leave it in there
Like Phaedrus said...dont mess with PH unless it is really outta wack. There are too many factors all working together to make it what it is...and it is near impossible to really control all the factors...changing one thing could have an adverse affect somewhere else.

i took a sample of the tap and let it sit 24 hours and then tested, which came out to be around 7.0 + o r -.
I took it after about 2 weeks of up and running(the tank) and it is now about 8.0 according to my test kit.
the mid range ph test kit reads a solid 7.4 while the high range ph kit reads 8.0.
i do realize the mid range kit tops out at 7.4, but i was just using it as additional information.
