Arrh!!! my suvatti have been performing a courtship that has last 3 days solid. I have just come home from the gym to find them half way through spawning. It was briliant and I nearly missed it. The female has laid close to 100 more egss thn simply swam away and left it to the male.
Now do I leave the eggs well alone or do I remove them and try to raise them myself?
Some call it a product of a mis-spent youth, I call it Rock n Roll !
My Puffers: Puffers I have kept: T lineatus T miurus A modestus T biocellatus C valentini C coranata C papuan C lorteti DPs suvattii burrfish T niphobles
You never know, Suvatti might be some kind of bizzare fish where the babys feed off of the parents slime coating....Although, thats a bit out of proportion, I would try a little of both.
Well the third fry has died unfortunately.
The good news however is that i have a fry rearing tank stood by and been feeding it liquifry no1 for a few days. The male has left the eggs alone for now and is dutifully gaurding and fanning them. His aggression is still there, so I will leave them with him as long as possible.
I will however take the eggs out to the fry tank at around day 6. IME the last lot hatched around 7 days.
Its a risk leaving them with him but if i remove them to the other tank I will have fungal problems with the eggs and I do not want to treat the water.
Out of the 100 or so eggs there are only two unfertilised.
